Pretoria, 5 June 2026. — The Vice-President of South Africa, Paul Mashatile, received the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, on a courtesy visit.
During the cordial meeting, the parties highlighted the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite the governments and peoples of South Africa and Cuba. Ambassador Rodríguez Pinelo expressed Cuba’s firm commitment to continuing to deepen bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest.
Vice-President Mashatile reaffirmed South Africa’s enduring solidarity with the Cuban people. In this regard, he reiterated South Africa’s support for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US, as well as for the elimination of the unilateral coercive measures that have caused serious socio-economic difficulties for the island.
The Cuban Embassy expresses its gratitude for the cordiality and hospitality received during the visit and reiterates its willingness to work together with the South African authorities to consolidate and expand bilateral ties for mutual benefit.
