STATEMENT BY THE SVG-CUBA FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY
The Cuba -SVG Friendship Society once again adds its voice to the growing chorus of worldwide condemnation against the continuing acts of aggression against Cuba.
In its unrelenting war of economic and political aggression, the White House issued a new Executive Order on May 1st, designed to intensify and tighten the economic and financial embargo against Cuba. The new executive order seeks to increase economic pressure on Cuba by targeting areas such as energy, mining, finance, transportation and companies linked to the Cuban state.
This ruthless act of economic aggression further amplifies the extraterritorial effects of the blockade by applying penalties and sanctions against international companies that cooperate and continue to do business with Cuba.
The aim of this recent executive order is quite obvious, which is to apply maximum pressure that will bring the Cuban economy to a halt and create chaos and hardship for the people of Cuba with the hope that this will lead to capitulation and regime change.
The situation in Cuba at the moment is dire, with daily blackouts – sometimes for 22 hours without electricity – resulting in rising costs, transport disruptions and causing broader economic strain. This is undoubtedly a crime against humanity and must be strongly condemned.
It is important to note that all these actions by the United States are considered by the United Nations as a gross violation of international law and the principles of free trade. They are also constituting a direct assault on the sovereignty and rights of the Cuban people to self-determination.
The United States will only succeed in its quest to destroy Cuba if the rest of the world sit idly by and allow such injustice and wanton disregard for humanitarian principles to go unchallenged. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, The Cuba-SVG Friendship Society again call on all Vincentians to condemn these acts of aggression against Cuba, who always stood by us in our time of need and crises. We must not allow such bullying tactics to destroy decades of friendship and solidarity that we share with our brothers and sisters in Cuba.
We wish to thank again all those persons who have so graciously contributed to our campaign to raise funds to assist Cuba. The first tranche of funds of EC$19,000 was handed over to Ambassador, His Excellency Carlos Etcheverry on May 7th 2026. We continue to encourage persons to donate to the fund established at the Bank of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Account #130016.
Let’s do this for Cuba! That’s what Friends are for!
Long Live the bonds of Friendship and Solidarity between Cuba and St. Vincent and the Grenadines!
