Statement of the Association of Cuban Residents in Saint Kitts and Nevis
The Association of Cuban Residents in Saint Kitts and Nevis welcomes the most recent decision of the United States government regarding Cuba.
The exclusion of our nation from the State Department's list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism has been a fair and necessary measure, demanded by much of the international community for the last four years. Cuba should never have been on that list; It was an arbitrary designation that attacked our economy and directly affected the Cuban people.
Likewise, we recognize as a step forward the repeal of Title III of the Helms Burton Act and the elimination of the list of Cuban entities restricted to trade with the United States.
These measures are positive, but not sufficient. Our country needs to move forward without ties, the Cuban people deserve it. We continue to be subject to an economic, commercial and financial blockade, which must end.
We will continue with our people defending the right to progress and live with dignity.
