"We will never regret having written one of the most beautiful pages in the history of solidarity among the people"

Pretoria, March 29, 2019.- The Vice President of Cuba, Inés María Chapman presided an act of solidarity with Cuba that was held in the afternoon at the University of South Africa.

The participants carried Cuban flags, posters denouncing the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, against the illegal occupation of part of the Cuban territory of the province of Guantánamo by the United States and against the imperialist aggressions towards Venezuela and Nicaragua.

The interventions on the South African side were very emotional. The words of Blade Nzimande, general secretary of the SACP stand out among them; who described the Cuban Revolution as an "inspiration for all the peoples of the world who struggle to achieve social justice and a Genunian democracy", and thanked the Cuban people for participating in the struggles for the liberation of Africa and against the racist regime of apartheid.

In her speech, the Cuban Vicemandamanda affirmed that "we will never regret having written one of the most beautiful pages in the history of solidarity among the people" and that her presence today in South Africa is a sign of the Cuban government's willingness to strengthen the ties of cooperation and brotherhood with the people of South Africa.

The opportunity was also favorable for Mairín Moreno, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in South Africa, to offer a few words; in which she ratified the support of the Venezuelan people to Cuba and updated the participants about the aggressions that the legitimate government of Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan population are suffering. Her intervention motivated in the participants expressions of support and solidarity.

Participated in the activity, Blade Nzimande, general secretary of the Communist Party of South Africa (SACP); Solly Mapailla, deputy general secretary of the SACP; Jacob Mamabolo, provincial secretary of the SACP; and other authorities of the SACP of the Gauteng province; as well as members of the Society of Friends of Cuba (FOCUS), graduates in Cuba, non-governmental organizations and the population of the province in general. Likewise, Mairín Moreno, Ambassador of Venezuela in South Africa, accompanied by officials of that Embassy. On the Cuban side it participated, Armando Vergara Bueno, Deputy Director General of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Ambassador of Cuba in South Africa; officials of this Embassy, ​​a representation of the Cuban collaborators in the province and Cubans residents in South Africa.
