Wide representation of the government of St. Kitts and Nevis participates in commemorative activity organised by the Embassy of Cuba.

Basseterre, May 8, 2023- Within the framework of the 28th anniversaries of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Saint Kitts and Nevis, and the 60th anniversary of the beginning of international Cuban medical collaboration, the Embassy of Cuba organised a political-cultural celebration attended by a wide representation of the government of this Federation, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley.

The event, held at La Casa del Habano, one of the enclosures of this island that is also a little piece of Cuba, served to honour the "60 years of solidarity and humanism, which have left their indelible mark on the five continents of this Planet," as Ambassador David Rivero said, when addressing the audience. Likewise, he extended the congratulations to the present representation there of that "army of hope for the world," as Fidel catalogued, to those who have the honourable task of healing and saving lives.

At another point in his speech, he referred to those "fraternal ties" developed between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Cuba almost three decades ago; the gratitude to the people and government of this Federation for their invariable support in the fight against the blockade; and he ratified his country's commitment to maintain the ties that unite them and the willingness to continue strengthening them.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sharon Archibald, during her speech, thanked Cuba for its great contribution to the well-being of its country and conveyed this gratitude to the Cuban collaborators who after twenty years of uninterrupted presence in the Federation, have earned the respect, recognition and affection of the people of St Kitts and Nevis. She strongly condemned the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which makes the economic development of the nation impossible and in this sense, she recognised Cuba’a effort to continue helping everyone who needs it, despite the real limitations it faces.

Dr. Odalis Abreu, representing the Cuban Medical Brigade, reaffirmed the commitment to continue contributing with concrete contributions in cooperation wherever they are needed. She also ratified that "the development of internationalism will continue to be one of the principles that characterises Cuban public health, and will continue to be present as an indisputable pillar of the prestige achieved before the world."

The Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Hanley, for his part, expressed the joy of more than 28 years of relations between Cuba and St. Kitts and Nevis. He also expressed gratitude to Cuba from his people and government, both for the assistance offered during these years, as well as for the training of over one hundred young people, in various university careers.
