Pretoria, March 8, 2020.- In the framework of the celebrations for International Women's Day, we take this opportunity to recognize the leading role that women currently play in the social, economic and political life of the Cuban nation.
The insertion of Cuban women in the development process of the country is, without a doubt, one of the most successful social phenomena that occurred in the Cuban Revolution.
The work of institutions such as the Federation of Cuban Women and the projection of public policies in favor of the inclusion and deployment of the potential of women have been key in this regard.
Since the Triumph of the Revolution in January 1959, the first steps were taken to eliminate problems such as prostitution, lack of family planning, a Family Code was adopted that establishes the absolute legal equality of women and men, among others. . The process up to the present, has been a long one "a revolution within the Revolution", according to the historical leader Fidel Castro.
Present in every sector of the economy, women are an essential force to guarantee the prosperous development of the nation. Cuban women have a high level of instruction and professional qualification. They excel in education, health, commerce, agricultural work and other areas.
Currently more than 60% of university graduates in Cuba are women, a percentage not far away occupy senior management positions, and Cuban women since the revolutionary triumph, earn the same as men, for the same activity.
They have also conquered a notable space in the political life of the country. Just to cite an example, currently 322 women make up the National Assembly of People's Power, 53.22% of the deputies, which makes Cuba the second country with the most women in the National Parliament.
The Cuban Embassy in South Africa conveys a cordial congratulations and best wishes to all Cuban women on their Day!
