XI Earth Sciences Convention and Exhibition (Geosciences 2025): “Geosciences at the service of Society and Development”. Havana, April 7-11, 2025

The Cuban Geological Society (www.scg.cu) invites Cuban and foreign professionals, technicians and students of Geology, Geophysics, Mining and related sciences, to attend the XI Earth Sciences Convention (Geosciences 2025), and Exhibition. These International events will take place at the Conventions Palace in Havana, on April 7-11, 2025.

The International Geosciences Convention has been held every two years for the past 20 years (2005) and has an associated exhibition, which displays products, new technologies and services for the Geosciences

The experience of Mongolian mining companies and professionals would be a great contribution to the participants of Geosciences 2025, as Mongolia´s mining sector has one of the world’s leading mineral resources. Also because Mongolia is home to more than 10 000 deposits of more than 80 types of minerals, particularly coal, copper, gold and now uranium, about 10 000 exploration results and a few hundred thousand mineral points.

The IX Geosciences 2023 Convention was attended by about 400 researchers, professionals, scientists and entrepreneurs from some 20 countries, including the United States, China, France, Spain, Mexico and Uruguay.

Geociencias 2025 will host five traditional congresses: the 16th Geology Congress, the 13th Geophysics Congress, the 12th Mining Congress, the 10th Oil and Gas Congress and the 15th Informatics and Geosciences Congress (GEOINFO). Also after the Convention several field trips will be organized, with detailed information available later on the web site: www.cubacienciasdelatierra.com

Each Congress holds a series of workshops and symposia with current topics such as 3D applications, artificial intelligence, critical minerals for the energy transition, environmental impacts of mining, etc.

The Mining Congress will discuss surface and underground mining, safety, energy economy, mineral processing, technological research, new products and processes, technical-economic evaluation of mining projects and technologies, development and exploitation prospects of solid minerals and geology. It will also held two Symposiums on Geology, Exploration and Exploitation of lateritic-Ni deposits and Mining and Metallurgy (MINEMETAL) and six Workshops.

Workshops will be about experiences in exploitation mine for construction materials, new technologies for use and process of colas, mining and their impact to the physical and social means and prevention and remediation of the environmental impacts. There will also be workshops on geological service of the mines and quarry, estimation and reestimation of resources and reserves, impact of the potentiality of the technical minerals on the sustainable agriculture and the food sovereignty and experiences in the exploitation / processing of critical minerals.

Cuba is the world's 9th largest nickel producer and 5th of cobalt; it is home to the world's fifth largest nickel reserve and the fourth largest world cobalt  reserves and also has the world's largest lead-producing surface mine. In Cuba there are also more than 9,000 deposits of useful metallic and non-metallic minerals with the advantages that most of them are close to roads, rails and seaports and can be mined in the open pit at cheaper costs.

The island also has large quantities of other metallic minerals such as copper, iron, chrome, gold and silver, as well as other non-metallic and salt such as clays for cement and for ceramics, silica sand for glass and garnet (for abrasives), It also homes plaster (for the pharmaceuticals and light paneling), zeolite (fertilizers, filter material and animal feed supplement), salt (Punta Alegre salt dome, for chemistry, pharmaceutical, industrial and possible Lithium), feldspar, marble, among others.

According to a report, in 2013-2021, 77 geological objectives (projects) for the search and evaluation of mineral resources (BERM) have been executed in Cuba. 28 of these projects are metallic minerals (17 gold and silver and the rest are geological targets of nickel, chromium and iron) and 49 are non-metallic. Of the non-metallic ones, 33 are for use as construction materials and 16 for industry and agriculture, of which 36 were completed and delivered mineral resources to the State..

The convention welcomes presentations about Cuba, the Caribbean or in general about geology, geophysics and mining experiences in the search and management of natural resources, including minerals (metals, non-metals), water, oil and gas, construction, earthquake research and other geohazards, medical geology and mining.

Cuba invites national and foreign professional societies, institutions and non-government organizations to organize workshops, round tables and meetings during the Convention. For coordination, contact the Organizing Committee at your earliest convenience: geociencias.cuba.scg@gmail.com. For further Information, registration payments go to: www.cubacienciasdelatierra.com

Extended abstract or papers to be included in the digital memory must be available before March 1st, 2025. geociencias.cuba.scg@gmail.com

The registration fee of 400.00 USD, as participant or exhibitor, provides free access to all convention scientific activities, documentation, publication in Memories of Geosciences and also to GeoExpo exhibition, welcome activity and closing lunch. The registration fee should be paid online at: www.cubacienciasdelatierra.com
