Don't miss the opportunity to travel to the best cultural destination in the Caribbean in the last 4 years, according to the World Travel Awards, or to visit Old Havana and its 505-year-old fortress system, a World Cultural Heritage Site.
The Havana Fair has an identity that no other kind of fair has. Authors give lectures and interact with their fans, but the event is much more than that. It also includes music concerts, art exhibitions, poetry readings, entertainment, plays, film screenings, dance and food.
You may not find in Havana all the well-known bestsellers and the usual books that you can find anywhere in the United States or Europe. In Havana you will find the hidden literary talent from Cuba and other countries that you will not find almost anywhere else, more literature from the underdogs, the books that make you think and leave questions inside you
That is why the Fair attracts people from all over the world, from Spanish-speaking readers to anyone who shares a passion for books and is traditionally attended by around 500,000 Cubans and foreigners each year.
The XXXII edition of 2024 was attended by 435 representatives from 56 countries and more than 800 physical and digital titles were presented. In its first 10-day stage in Havana in 2024 alone, it recorded the sale of 725,933 copies of physical books, and was attended by more than 450,000 people.
Held for the first time in 1982, the fair will be spread over ten days in Havana, from February 13 to 23, 2025, before moving to other provinces and closing its doors in the city of Santiago de Cuba at the end of March.
The book festival in Havana will have its usual headquarters in the Parque las Fortalezas Morro Cabaña, facing Havana Bay and one of the oldest standing fortresses in America.
Among the best-known authors who have been present or honoured at the fair are American writer Alice Walker and German playwright Bertolt Brecht.
For foreign publishers, the Havana Fair is a unique opportunity not only to introduce the Cuban public to their editions and to get to know Cuban authors and literature. It is also an occasion to come into contact with the work of authors and publishers from dozens of other countries who attend this book festival.
Some of the various countries that have participated in the fair in the past include China, Republic of Korea, Russia, United States, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Germany, India, Venezuela, France, Argentina, Algeria, Brazil, Vietnam and the West Indies.
Another particular feature of the fair is that it chooses, each year, to honour a particular country and its literary achievements, as well as to honour some guest authors. In the 2025 edition, South Africa will be the guest country of honour.
Unlike other famous fairs such as Frankfurt, London, Guadalajara and Beijing, which are held in exhibition halls, the festive tone of the Havana Book Fair has made it one of the most famous cultural fairs in the country and a destination for fiction.
