Havana, August 5th. - Young people from Cuba ratified this Thursday their support for the Revolution, the Communist Party and the Government of the Caribbean nation, through a caravan that traveled several kilometers from this capital city. The second secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), Lisara Corona, told Prensa Latina that the participants in that march transmit to the world a message of peace, love and support for Cuban institutions, and they have many reasons to be present. Among them, he cited the 55th anniversary of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students (Oclae) (August 11), the International Youth Day (August 12), and the 95 years of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (August 13).
She was also celebrating the popular victory of August 5th, 1994, when attempts to subvert the social order supported by the majority of the people in the country were overthrown, with Fidel Castro at the forefront of the triumph, she recalled. It is also a tribute to health and support personnel, who for a year and a half have had a tough confrontation with Covid-19, and are currently fighting in the midst of the complex epidemiological situation. She added that the young people also recognize in this way the athletes of the Antillean island, both the medalists and all the others, who raise the name of Cuba in the Olympic Games. She said that the caravan, where people on skates, skateboards, cars, motorcycles, motorcycles ..., took into account the country's health panorama and therefore ensured compliance with hygienic-sanitary measures.
The procession left at 9:00 a.m. local time, from La Chorrera, and extends to La Punta along the entire Havana coast, to culminate with a university fair in the March 13 park, something that will happen simultaneously in other squares of the capital, like the one in Trillo, in Centro Habana; and G and 25 in Vedado. "At that fair all the higher education centers of Havana will be represented and the results of research and scientific-technical university students will be able to be appreciated," said Corona. In addition, a kite festival is planned in the La Punta area, live broadcasts for social networks and a youthful tweet. According to the youth leader, the actions of this Thursday open a day of celebrations for the aforementioned anniversaries, within which the development of talks and book presentations, among other activities, is planned.
