Cape Town, July 07, 2023 - A total of 450 South African students who studied medicine in Cuba through the Nelson Mandela-Fidel Castro Medical Training Program graduated today at a ceremony hosted by the University of Cape Town.
The ceremony was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Health of South Africa, Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo and Dr. Fidela Reyes Obediente, Director of Pre-Graduate Studies of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba.
In his speech, the South African Deputy Minister expressed gratitude to the South African and Cuban governments for supporting the Mandela-Fidel Medical Training Partnership Program. He also thanked the people of Cuba for welcoming the young South Africans.
The graduates are among the thousands of students who have benefited from the Program and will be placed in several public health facilities across the country, mainly in historically disadvantaged communities and underserved areas.
