The vice president of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, received the Cuban ambassador in this country, Giraldo Mazola. The Cuban diplomat conveyed a congratulatory message from the Government and the Party of the Caribbean island to the Namibian leader for his recent posting.

The Namibian politician was Secretary General of SWAPO until the last congress of the political organization, held last December. President Geingob appointed Mbumba at the beginning of February of this year as Vice President of the Nation, when Nickey Iyambo resigned due to health problems.

In the pleasant meeting were exchanged about the excellent state of bilateral relations and the possibilities to expand them, especially in the economic and commercial spheres. Likewise, some topics of international news were analyzed.

The Cuban Ambassador and the Namibian Vice President agreed on the positive outcome of the recent visit of the Namibian Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, to Cuba.

Vice President Mbumba reiterated the willingness of his country and government to continue supporting Cuba in the struggle for the lifting of the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade of the United States and his commitment to continue working to strengthen bilateral ties.

Vice Prime Minister and Chancellor of Namibia condemns the latest US measures against Cuba.

The Vice Prime Minister of Namibia and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwah, in her second meeting this year with the diplomatic corps, condemned the latest measures taken by the United States government against Cuba, which intensify the Economic, commercial and financial blockade.

Likewise, the senior Namibian leader reiterated her country's support for Venezuela and the causes of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples.

The meeting was also favourable for the Chancellor to offer her country's positions on other important issues on the international and regional agenda, such as climate change, the restructuring of the UN Security Council, regional integration, the  Agenda 2063 and the political situation in Zimbabwe.

Updates were also provided on the situation in the country and on the next SWAPO congress.

President of Namibia condemns Blockade at UN General Assembly.

The President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, in his address to the high-level segment of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly demanded the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States Government against Cuba. The African leader also celebrated the process of re-establishing relations between the two countries.

The Namibian president said: "Over the past several years, Namibia has been noting the growing rapprochement between Cuba and the United States, culminating in the reopening of embassies between the two countries. We believe that this rapprochement should lead to the full lifting of economic and financial embargo against the Republic of Cuba and its people, who have the right to pursue peace and a decent life."

Likewise, Geingob condemned the occupation by Israel of the Palestinian territories; described as inalienable and legal the right of the Palestinian people to their independence and to the formation of their State; and called on the international community to work to resolve the conflict by recognizing the two States.

On the other hand, it also claimed the right of the Saharan people to self-determination and independence; reaffirmed the position of Namibia in support of the struggle for freedom of the Saharan Arab Republic and called for the implementation of the measures adopted in this regard by the Security Council and the UN General Assembly.

President Geingob addressed other important issues on the international agenda such as climate change, United Nations reform and the need to emphasize multilateralism for the solution of conflicts.

The president also highlighted the achievements of Namibia since the country's independence in 1990, especially in the reduction of poverty. However, he said he was not satisfied and assured that his government will continue to work in this regard.
