We appreciate the presentation made by the High Commissioner and reiterate our support for her mandate; pursuant to General Assembly resolution 48/141.

The impact of COVID-19 has been catastrophic. More than 4.5 million lives have been lost, and many more are yet to be lost. The virus kills, as does the lack of solidarity, the unilateral coercive measures and the selfishness imposed by the unjust international order.

At the outset, I would like to reiterate our appreciation to UN-Women for the efforts throughout these challenging times. UN-Women has been a strong voice for addressing the socio-economic consequences of COVID-19 on the life of women and girls around the world, and the integration of a gender perspective in the response to and recovery from the pandemic.
