Cubans pay tribute to their National Hero Jose Marti

Cuban students will reenact the traditional March of the Torches on Monday to pay tribute to National Hero Jose Marti on his 170th birthday, on January 28.

Members of the capital’s youth and student organizations will gather at the steps of the University of Havana to march to the Fragua Martiana (Museum of Marti’s Forge), where teenage Marti was imprisoned for his pro-independence ideas.

The night torches parade, usually attended by the nation’s highest authorities, will welcome January 28, the birthday, in 1853, of the man considered the Apostle of Cuban independence.

Monrovia, May 19, 2020 - 125 years after the fall in combat, facing the sun, of the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, which took place in the fields of Dos Ríos, on May 19, 1895, the Cuban Embassy in Liberia joins the homage of all the Cuban people to his memory and example.

That day, Maximo Gomez wrote in his campaign diary: "We are already missing the best of our comrades and the soul we can say of the uprising".
