Tribute from the Embassy of Cuba in Mongolia and the José Martí School for the 127th Anniversary of the death in combat of the National Hero of Cuba

With a political-cultural function ended in the Secondary School #52, José Martí, in Ulan Bator, the activities of tribute for the 127th Anniversary of the death in combat of the National Hero of Cuba.

The closing event was presided over by the Ambassador of Cuba in Mongolia, Jorge Ferrer and the Director of that institution, Mrs. Tserenkhand Lumben, who pronounced the main words, in front of the sculpture of Martí that perpetuates his memory. The Cuban Ambassador also placed a floral wreath before it.

The Director of the center highlighted the honor of that institution of bearing the name of José Martí. She highlighted the multifaceted live of our National Hero as a politician, writer, journalist and fighter for independence that led him to lost his life.

The Cuban Ambassador thanked the organization of the activities at the school, which previously included the holding of poetry and essay contests, as well as the participation of the center's management, students and teachers on them.

The diplomat stressed that Martí's genius was the unity between different generations, the creation of a revolutionary party to lead the struggle and the organization of the Necessary War of 1895 for independence.

He also stressed that the main sense of Martí's short life was the independence of his homeland and to prevent with it in time the United States “… from falling with that force more, on our lands of America”. He concluded that with his fateful fall in combat, the independence of Cuba was frustrated in a few years.

Subsequently, the winners of the first three places in the poetry contest recited their poems and the three students who wrote the three best essays exhibited his works. The Ambassador of Cuba gave the winners of the contests accrediting diplomas and history and culture books as presents.

The Cuban representative also delivered to the Director, as a donation to the school, a photographic copy of the oil painting of Jose Marti in his office on Front Street, in New York, painted in 1891 by Herman Norrman.

As part of the cultural activities, a group of female students displayed typical costumes and traditional Mongolian contemporary dances, and two groups of students sang in Mongolian and English.
