Roseau, July 24, 2022. The "Day of National Rebellion" of Cuba, in commemoration of the 69th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks, was celebrated by the Cuban collaborators of the permanent brigade of the health in Dominica, yesterday afternoon, July 23, 2022. The activities were also attended by the Ambassador of Cuba, Ulises Arranz Fernández; Consul Miriam Martín Posada; the head of the brigade of collaborators, Dr. Francisco Sánchez Martínez and a representation of the "Dominica - Cuba Friendship Association", headed by its president, Dr. Damien Dublin.
Nursing graduate Yirenis Reiva Rivero spoke on behalf of the collaborators, who said “The tactical setback suffered did not modify the historical result, but rather opened a new stage of armed struggle that made the existence of Fidel Castro Ruz known to the Cuban people…. The heroic gesture opened the way to the triumph of the Cuban Revolution”. She concluded by saying "Today we ratify our fidelity and commitment to the Cuban Revolution and the conviction that we will not give up, nor will we allow ourselves to be defeated", a commitment ratified by her companions with loud applause.
On behalf of the "Dominica – Cuba Friendship Association”, Dr. Rachel Andrew and Engineer Lloyd Pascal spoke, both graduated in Cuba through the scholarship program that Cuba offers to Dominicans. Dr. Rachel, a cardiologist who shares her daily workday with the Cuban collaborators at the "Dominican Friendship - China" Hospital, referred to Cuba with great affection and thanked her for her training as a professional and as a human being, which she had received. For his part, Engineer Pascal, who belongs to the first group of fellows from Dominica who arrived in Cuba in 1979, told anecdotes about how he shared his daily life with the Cuban people, such as the CDR guards in which he participated, as well as how proud he felt of having done it. Both recognized the importance of the deed of July 26, 1953 for the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
At the end of the political act, a festive activity was held in which Dominicans and Cubans shared throughout the afternoon.
