Despite the inclement weather, a group of Mongolian and Cuban friends, together with the Cuban Embassy, remembered Fidel on the 96th anniversary of his birth in the courtyard of the Habanos Hall in Ulan Bator.
The Habanos importer businessman and the Ambassador of Cuba, Jorge Ferrer, spoke on the ocassion.
The Mongolian businessman recalled that during the first years of the Revolution Fidel was a regular tobacco smoker and then gave up the habit to lead the battle for health against smoking.
The Cuban ambassador evoked the figure of Fidel as the architect of the Cuban Revolution and international politician. He also recalled the bravery of the Cuban, Mexican and Venezuelan firefighters who faced the fuel tank fire in Matanzas. He paid special tribute to the 14 Cubans who heroically lost their lives in the effort and invited those present to contribute to the initiative of the Association of Graduates in Cuba and some Cuban residents to raise funds to donate to our people due to the damage caused by the fire.
The grandson of the first Mongolian Ambassador in Cuba and also son of another Ambassador in Havana and the Cuban Ambassador in this capital, shared anecdotes about Fidel. Among them it was mentioned, Fidel's initiative in the creation in 1966 of the Cohiba brand, the original name given by the Taino Indians of the island to tobacco, which was Fidel's favorite brand and which for years he used as a gift for foreign personalities.
On the occasion, a luminous gigantography on the brands and sizes of Cuban cigars was premiered in the wall outside the premise.
