Nicosia, September 2, 2022 -. The President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Her Excellency Mrs. Annita Demetriou, received at the National Assembly's hemicycle headquarters, the Cuban Ambassador in Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suárez Cordero.
The Cuban diplomat conveyed the willingness of the National Assembly of Cuba, Cuba's legislative body, to promote inter-parliamentary relations as a contribution to the development of the bonds of friendship between the two countries and for the benefit of both peoples.
During the conversation, the Cuban Ambassador referred to the new legal order of the nation, from the approval of the 2019 Constitution, which was ratified in a popular referendum with the support of 86.85% of voters, and was the reflection of a broadly participatory, civic and democratic process. He commented on the intense legislative activity to establish its complementary provisions according to the route previously established by the Magna Carta and as an example of this, is that next September 25 will be held the Referendum for the approval of the Family Code, one of the legal norms that have had more social and political transcendence in the legal history of the country.
During the meeting, the Cuban representative discussed the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on his country by the United States, as well as the plans to destabilize the Antillean nation and expressed his gratitude for the solidarity always received from Cyprus.
On her part, the Cypriot parliamentary leader described the relations between both countries as excellent and updated the Ambassador on the situation regarding the territorial problem of her country.
Both sides stressed the importance of working to strengthen existing ties at the parliamentary level, as well as cooperation in areas such as health, sports, biotechnology, tourism, environment, among others.
The friendly meeting was also attended by Marina Adamidou and Ionna Sygrasiti, Director and International Relations Specialist respectively of the Parliament of Cyprus (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
