Pretoria, September 20, 2022.- The Ambassador of Cuba to South Africa, Enrique Orta González, held a fruitful exchange today with the South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary, Solly Mapaila. Lefika Chetty, member of the International Relations Committee of the SACP and Bryan Betancourt Brito, Third Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Pretoria in charge of Political Affairs, also participated in the meeting.
The historic relations between Cuba and South Africa, as well as between both communist parties, were highlighted at the meeting, and the need to continue strengthening bilateral ties was also highlighted. The historic role of Cuba and its people in the struggle for the liberation of southern Africa was recognized.
The SACP General Secretary condemned the genocidal blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, as well as the sanctions applied during the Trump administration that are still in force, hindering the development of the Cuban economy.
