Cuban Ambassador is received by members of the General Council of the Pan Cypriot Women's Movement - POGO.

Nicosia, November 04, 2022. On the morning of November 3, at the headquarters of the Pan Cypriot Women's Movement - (POGO, for its acronym in Greek) the Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero was received by members of its General Council, headed by Skevi Koukoumas, Secretary General of the organization.

The POGO leader told the Cuban diplomat about the situation of women in Cyprus and the work that the organization has been doing for many years to achieve equality between men and women. At the same time, Skevi recognized the work done by the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) in the empowerment of the women of the Caribbean island, as a guide and inspiration to women in the world.

During the emotional meeting, the Cuban Ambassador recognized the unequivocal solidarity between both peoples and the historical cooperation between POGO and the FMC. At the same time, he thanked the Panchypriot Women's Movement for all its support in the struggle for the elimination of the blockade imposed by the US against the Cuban people for more than 60 years. In addition, he informed those present about the Cuban Government's National Program for the Advancement of Women (PAM, as it is commonly called) and its contribution to gender equality, the empowerment of women and the full exercise of their rights, and how, one year after its creation, progress can be recognized at the organizational, regulatory, training and communication levels; which project changes and transforming leaderships, which also bring with them new challenges and gaps to be closed.

During the meeting, future cooperation between POGO and the Cuban Embassy in Cyprus was also discussed.

Skevi Koukoumas was accompanied by the Head of International Relations of the Progressive Party of the Working People of Cyprus (AKEL), Vera Polykarpou; the Secretary of Organization of POGO, Eleni Evagorou; the Head of International Relations, Sotiroulla Giasemi; the member of the Secretariat, Stavri Kalopsidiotou, the member of the General Council, Stalo Constantinou and the advisor of the Center for Aid to the Families, Olga Manora (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
