London, 1 December 2022- Entitled Cuba Negra, Cuban guitarist Ahmed Dickinson gave a concert at London's The Africa Centre as part of the Echoes Festival. The repertoire was dedicated to Afro-Cuban music with the interpretation of pieces arranged for guitar and strings by composers from the Island, including Walfrido Dominguez, Leo Brower and Eduardo Martín.
A guitar graduate from the Higher Institute of the Arts (ISA), Dickinson continued his studies in the UK at the Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. With six albums under his belt, the artist has performed in prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican, and has featured, among others, at the London Classical Guitar Festival, the Oxford Lieder Festival and the Havana Guitar Festival. For this occasion, he was accompanied by Salix, a string quartet formed in 2020 at the Royal Academy of Music, and double bassist Benjamin Russell, from the London Mozart Players and the Britten Sinfonia.
Co-produced by the Iberian and Latin American Musical Society (ILAMS) and the Instituto Cervantes in London, the event is part of Echoes Festival of Latin Classical Music. Ambassador Bárbara Montalvo and First Secretary in charge of cultural affairs Michel Rodríguez attended the concert on behalf of the Cuban Embassy.
