Where is America going, and who gathers and guides it? Alone, and as one people, it rises. Alone it fights. It will win, alone (...).
With excerpts from the speech "Mother America", delivered by José Martí at the Hispanic American Literary Society evening, the members of the Cuban Mission in Washington D.C. paid tribute to the National Hero on the 170th anniversary of his birth.
During the tribute to the Apostle at the diplomatic headquarters, as a symbolic act, one of the pioneers of the Embassy received her blue scarf.
The space dedicated to José Martí also included the reading of the poem Yugo y Estrella (Yoke and Star). At the end of the brief but heartfelt tribute to the most intellectual of all Cubans, white roses were placed on the statue that stands at the entrance of the Cuban Embassy in Washington D.C.
