The conmemoration of the 170th Anniversary of the birth of the National Hero of Cuba ended with a cultural event at School #52, José Martí, in Ulan Bator. The date could not be celebrated on January 28 due to the winter school holidays.
The event was presided over by the Ambassador of Cuba in Mongolia, Jorge Ferrer and the Director of that institution, Mrs. Tserenkhand Lumben who pronounced the central statetements, before the bust of Martí that perpetuates his memory. The Cuban Ambassador also laid flowers before the sculpture.
The Director highlighted the honor of the center in bearing the name of José Martí and its work in teaching about his life and work, as well as the history and culture of Cuba. She highlighted that it is probably the only Mongolian school that receives a scholarship every year from a country, in this case from Cuba, to study for free at the university.
The Cuban Ambassador highlighted the universality and contribution of Martí's ideas in the revolutionary process. He also thanked the organization of the events and the work of promoting Martí's ideology and Cuban history and culture among the students.
As part of the tributes, five Cuban music singing contests, declamation of Martí's verses, essays, illustrated mini-books and drawings about Martí, Cuba and its national symbols were held in recent months. The diplomat delivered recognition diplomas and presents to the winners of the first three places in each contest.
The cultural activity included the performance of a musical group of students with one of the typical Mongolian instruments, a traditional female dance group, a choir that sang Guajira Guantanamera in Spanish, and an 8-year-old student who recited in Spanish.
