The Biden administration released the Country Reports on Terrorism and continues Cuba's designation as a “state sponsor of terrorism”. The real purpose of slandering Cuba as a “terrorist” is to justify the illegal US blockade on Cuba.
With Cuba’s SSOT designation, the US. attempts to criminalize normalizing relations with Cuba, exacerbating the already devastating impacts of sanctions.
The US State Department should stay informed. It is public knowledge that, since November 2022, Colombia suspended all arrests warrants and extradition orders for ELN Members in Cuba and is already in the second round of talks with them!
Members of ELN cited in this Country Reports on Terrorism are in Mexico meeting with representatives of the governments of Colombia, Norway, Venezuela, Chile, Mexico, Cuba, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, the UN General Secretary, and the Episcopal Conference of Colombia.
Even with the misinformation in this report, which supposedly refers to 2021, its publication is shameful. Neither then nor now is there a single reason for the US to include Cuba among countries that sponsor or do not cooperate in the fight against the scourge of terrorism.
The National Network on Cuba (NNOC) condemned this false designation and called for an end to US terror toward Cuba. NNOC is the coalition of 50+ organizations working to lift the US blockade, take Cuba off Biden’s “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list and end the US war on Cuba.
