Pretoria, March 2, 2023.- The Special Congress of the National Union of Mine Workers of South Africa (NUM), that was held on March 1 and 2 in this capital, approved a resolution in support of Cuba against the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States maintains against our country. The document also states the commitment of the union organization and its affiliates to increase solidarity with the Caribbean island.
Invited by the highest leadership of the Union, the Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González attended the Congress in which he was able to share with several of the leaders of the tripartite government alliance, including the vice president of the African National Congress ( ANC), Paul Mashatile; the general secretary of the South African Communist Party, Solly Mapaila and the president and general secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), Zingiswa Losi, and Solly Pethoe, respectively.
