Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs participates in commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Cuito Cuanavale battle

Pretoria, March 26, 2023.- The Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, who heads a delegation from the Cuban Foreign Ministry to South Africa, participated in the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Cuito Cuanavale battle, held today at the South African capital. The day was organized by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture of that country, in tribute to the thousands of fallen heroes for the definitive liberation of southern Africa.

The event was attended by the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party, Solly Mapaila; Mr. Adams Queta, representing the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA); Musi Mbulelo, from the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Veterans Association, as well as representatives of the Angolan Embassy in South Africa. On the Cuban side, a broad representation  from the diplomatic headquarters and collaborators currently working in the country attended.

The Ambassador of Cuba to South Africa, Enrique Orta González, highlighted in his speech that the participation of Cubans in the struggles for the liberation of the African continent was the payment of a historical debt of Cuba towards Africa, whose best sons gave their lives for the independence of our island.
