Belmopán, June 13, 2023.- The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources of Cuba and the Ministry of Public Services, Energy, Logistics and Electronic Government of Belize, signed in this capital a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of water resources as part of the agreements of bilateral cooperation that are being developed in different spheres between both countries.
The document was signed by Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Services, Energy, Logistics and E-Government and by the Cuban ambassador, María Caridad Balaguer Labrada. The memorandum focuses its objectives on the technical and technological spheres, attention to the efficient use of water and its quality, the integrated and sustainable management of inland waters, as well as the mitigation of the effects of extreme hydrometeorological events.
At the conclusion of the signing of the memorandum, Minister Chebat thanked the Cuban government for this important contribution to the socio-economic development of the country, which will benefit the Belizean people; for her part, Ambassador Balaguer Labrada, highlighted the importance that Cuba attaches to the international cooperation with sister nations, as a sign of the strengthening of Latin American and Caribbean integration.
Present at the ceremony were Jorge Urbina, C.E.O of the Ministry of Public Services, Energy, Logistics and E-Government of Belize; Cornelio Acosta, President of the Board of Belize Water Services (BWS); Ervin Flores, BWS Consulting Engineer and Gustavo Aguinaga Linares, Consul of the Cuban Embassy in Belize.
