Cuba's Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez, today expressed his gratitude for the call to lift the blockade imposed by the United States on the island at the 45th Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (Caricom).
Through his Twitter account, Rodriguez stressed that Caricom's call is a sign of the constant support of the Caribbean countries to Cuba and the universal clamor: "better without blockade".
The day before, leaders of the Caribbean Community demanded the United States to eliminate the punitive policies it maintains against Cuba and Venezuela, the effects of which also harm its commercial partners.
According to the president of Caricom and prime minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, the region's leaders feel that after so many years of coercive measures, Washington must act to lift them.
We believe that sanctions should be removed and people should be allowed to get on with their lives, especially in these difficult times, he stressed.
