Cuba Mission in the U.S. celebrates National Rebellion Day.

The collective of the Cuba Mission in the United States today recalled the 70th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, actions that marked a decisive stage in the Caribbean nation.

Chief of Mission Lianys Torres said that on July 26, 1953, the young people of the Centennial Generation, led by Fidel Castro, started the engine towards the definitive liberation that arrived on January 1, 1959.

The Moncada program is fulfilled in each new work of the Cuban Revolution, said the diplomat while recalling all those who with their blood paved the road to freedom.

Torres ratified that one of the main challenges of the Cuban people at this time is the struggle for the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States more than six decades ago, a just demand that has the majority support of the international community.

During the ceremony, Maurice Martínez, who successfully fulfilled his mission, expressed on behalf of his comrades that "a new generation of Cubans nourishes more vibrant than ever the light of the Cuban Revolution, making each new challenge a Moncada of its times".

As part of the celebration of the National Rebelliousness Day, they also held a sports competition among the members of the Antillean legation, while the children had the opportunity to enjoy participatory games.

For the Moncada action, July 26 was chosen because it was Carnival Sunday, a celebration traditionally attended by people from different parts of the island, so the presence of young people from other provinces would not cause surprise in Santiago de Cuba, where the then military fortress is located.

Another group took by assault the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, in the also eastern city of Bayamo, today's Granma province.

The young people who carried out the assault in 1953 wanted to pay tribute to Cuba's national hero, José Martí, in the year of his centenary.
