Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrives to South Africa

Pretoria, August 22, 2023 - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez arrived in South Africa this evening to participate in the XV BRICS Summit, to which Cuba was invited as president pro tempore of the G77 and China.

The president was received by the Minister in the Presidency for Women's Affairs, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma; the chief director for the Americas of the South African Foreign Ministry, M. Bonna; the Cuban ambassador to South Africa, Enrique Orta González and other officials of the State Mission.

The delegation accompanying the President on this tour includes the Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla; the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda; the head of the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Emilio Lozada; and other officials.

During his stay in South Africa, the President is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several leaders, within the framework of the XV BRICS Summit.
