Celebration of Martí's 171st birthday at the Cuban embassy in the US.

With children as the main protagonists, the Cuban Embassy in the United States today paid tribute to José Martí, on the 171st anniversary of his birth.

Gathered at the diplomatic representation's headquarters in the capital, the children listened to the Apostle's poem "I grow a white rose", one of the National Hero's most famous poems, which recreates the value of friendship and the importance of cultivating sincere love with others.

There was symbolism, because the children declaimed a poem that appears in the book Versos sencillos, which Martí published in 1891, while living in New York City.

Passages from the Master's life and the music chosen, the musicalized version of the Versos sencillos a la Verso amigo by singer-songwriter Eduardo Sosa completed part of the tribute that concluded when, led by the head of the Cuban Mission, Lianys Torres, they placed flowers on the statue of Martí located at the embassy.

On January 28, 1853, José Julián Martí Pérez was born in Havana, a Cuban of universal projection who surpassed the frontiers of the era in which he lived to become the greatest Spanish-American political thinker of the 19th century.
