The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), through the chairman of the Justice and Peace Committee, Bishop Elias Zaidan, called today in the US capital to remove Cuba from the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism; as well as to begin the path of understanding for the benefit of the Cuban people.
In a letter sent to the Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, Bishop Zaidan recognized the historic position of the USCCB, which, together with the Holy See and the international community, has called for collaboration and mutually beneficial relations between the United States and Cuba, as well as the total lifting of the blockade against the Antillean nation.
The pronouncement of the Catholic organization joins the claims of religious leaders, churches and faith-based organizations that see in the inclusion of Cuba in the list of terrorist countries and its harmful consequences, a nonsense lacking in moral precepts and contrary to the ethics of their religious confessions.
