Belgrade, September 2. (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Education, Naima Trujillo, said today that Cuba will experience a great socio-cultural party on September 2, when the 2024-2025 academic year begins, for which the basic conditions are assured.
I am convinced that next Monday the great party that is the school year in our country can begin, prepared with great rigor to achieve its effectiveness and success, she said during a press conference in this capital.
An example of this, she said, will be the central opening ceremony in the Che Guevara Revolution Square, in Santa Clara, Villa Clara province (center of the country), with the participation of the students themselves.
According to her, for the new school period the essential methodological, technical and logistical guarantees are guaranteed, which was possible by virtue of great government efforts, in the midst of the complex economic situation of the country.
So far, she explained, more than 1.6 million students will arrive in the classrooms, a similar enrollment to that of recent cycles, despite the demographic movement of the Caribbean nation in recent years.
We have around 156 thousand teachers and professors in the national territory, but that number will grow before the start of the course and even during the next months, due to strategies adopted to complete the teaching coverage, said the minister.
Likewise, she regretted that the uniform for all students of the General Education System could not be guaranteed in the projected time, due to the late availability of the fabrics, and some could even start the course without the established school clothes.
However, she concluded, the two uniforms for preschool were ready and during the next weeks we will work to resolve the problems regarding this issue.
Trujillo considered opportune and valuable his tour of the country's provinces, with the objective of evaluating and certifying the preparations to carry out a teaching-educational process in accordance with the demands of Cuban pedagogy, essentially humanistic.
Since August 3, he has visited all territories, except the Isle of Youth, where he advocated for the systematic and permanent promotion of comprehensive education, based on a historical-cultural approach, and prioritizing civic education.
He also urged to improve the teaching of the English language, develop the digital skills of students and teachers, transform ideological instruction and increase lessons on confronting cultural colonization, among other educational objectives.
The Ministry decided to dedicate the course to "the 130th anniversary of the fall in combat of the National Hero José Martí and the 65th anniversary of the process of transformation of barracks into schools, led by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro."
