UK condemns blockade against Cuba

 The Revolutionary Communist Group (RCG) and its Cuba solidarity project, Rock Around the Blockade, expressed their condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States maintains against Cuba, during the event "Struggle for Socialism" held in the Bolivar Hall of the Consulate General of Venezuela.

London, October 20 - The Revolutionary Communist Group (RCG) and its Cuba solidarity project, Rock Around the Blockade, condemned the US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba at the "Struggle for Socialism" event held in the Bolivar Hall of the Venezuelan Consulate General.

Sam McGill of the RCG gave a vibrant speech of solidarity in which he highlighted the significance of the Cuban revolution and the Bolivarian revolution as examples of the importance of the struggle for socialism as the only alternative for our peoples. He denounced the blockade, as well as the unjust inclusion of Cuba on the State Department's spurious list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.

Sarah Guebre-Egziabher, also from the RCG, highlighted the importance of increasing political activism and solidarity with peoples like Cuba and Venezuela who face unjust unilateral coercive measures for defending their sovereignty and right to self-determination.

Ambassador Ismara Vargas, intervened highlighting Cuba's unwavering commitment to the construction of a socialist society despite the challenges imposed against our people since 1959, facing unilateral coercive measures that are mainly responsible for the current energy crisis suffered by our people. He underlined as the essence of Cuban culture the revolutionary resistance of our people, a heritage that we celebrate every October 20th, Cuban Culture Day.

The Cuban filmmaker Daniesky Acosta, resident in the United Kingdom, recited a poem by our National Hero José Martí, as a tribute to this special date.

For his part, Counsellor Wilfredo Hernández, from the Venezuelan Embassy, spoke, highlighting the historical ties of brotherhood and shared struggle between Cuba and Venezuela.

A special call was made to continue supporting the Palestinian cause, denouncing the genocide against this people and demanding that the international community put an end to this injustice.

The event included a rich exchange of ideas on the importance of international solidarity and the joint struggle against imperialism.

This event reaffirmed the value of international solidarity and the joint resistance of peoples against imperialism, at a critical moment for Latin America and the world. The Cuban Embassy in the UK thanks the organisers of the event for their support and commitment to the cause of the socialist peoples.
