Belmopan, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Belize today welcomed the decision of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to remove Cuba from the list of alleged sponsors of terrorism and called for the lifting of the blockade.
Through its account in X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it welcomes the announcement of the outgoing U.S. president, and reiterated its historical position that the "appointment was always erroneous and offensive," it said.
In the note, the Belizean Foreign Ministry reiterated the "urgent need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed against the people of Cuba," it concluded.
Cuba and Belize established diplomatic relations on July 15, 1995, and since then relations have moved towards strengthening mutual cooperation in areas such as health, sports, culture and the training of human resources.
Belize, as part of the Caribbean Community and also individually, permanently supported the request for the lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba and the exclusion from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
During the official visit to the Caribbean nation in February 2023, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that "we also have to thank you very much, for the support you have given us in the fight against the blockade, particularly today, when that blockade is being intensified."
