London, February 3. - When people raise their voices for a just cause, they grow as human beings, and that is something we owe to the Palestinian people", said Dr. Aleida Guevara March, during her speech at the Annual General Assembly of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom. Invited by the trade union group Cuba Solidarity Campaign, Aleida is participating in a series of meetings in several British cities with solidarity organizations, trade unions, students and parliamentarians. One of the highlights of her agenda will be the Latin American Conference 2025, to be held on February 8 in London.
Denouncing genocide in Palestine
The daughter of Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara stressed the importance of unity in the struggle against the occupation and genocide faced by the Palestinian people. She recalled her father's visit to Gaza in 1959, only a few months after the Triumph of the Revolution. By then that nation was already suffering and Che was one of the first world leaders to denounce the injustice and make the issue an issue on the international agenda.
Aleida condemned the Israeli genocide and its devastating effects on entire generations. "The war has destroyed dreams, cut short lives and closed off development possibilities for thousands of people," she emphasized.
As an Ambassador of Return to Palestine, appointed by the Global Campaign for Return to Palestine, Aleida Guevara advocated especially for the rights of Palestinian children and women. "We must join forces to stop this humanitarian disaster. If we do not, we will become accomplices in a heinous crime," she warned.
The event brought together figures from the international Palestine solidarity movement, including Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS), Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Husam Zomlot, Palestinian Ambassador to London; as well as members of the British Parliament.
Cuba and its commitment to Palestine
Aleida Guevara recalled that Cuba was the only country in the Americas to vote against the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine, also known as the UN Partition Plan of 1947, from which the State of Israel was created. After the revolutionary triumph, the new government maintained its support for this cause and in 1973 broke off diplomatic relations with Israel in solidarity with Palestine.
The leader called for international solidarity: "If we all join forces, no one will be able to stop us. When the peoples say the last word, and that word is victory, there is no force that can stop us," she concluded.
Call for Latin American integration from London
Dr. Aleida Guevara's agenda in the United Kingdom includes her participation in the Latin American Conference 2025 Latin America ¡Adelante! to be held on February 8 in London.
The event will bring together experts, trade unionists, parliamentarians and activists from the UK, Europe and Latin America to analyze the challenges facing the region and strengthen international solidarity. Issues such as sovereignty, neoliberalism and foreign interference will be discussed.
Aleida Guevara is among the more than 50 speakers and said that in her speech she will ratify Cuba's commitment to social justice and Latin American and Caribbean regional integration to confront imperial brutality.
