Belmopan, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) The solidarity movement with Cuba in Belize today rejected the measures of the U.S. State Department against the island's medical cooperation.
The text published on digital networks described as "deeply worrying" the recent decision of Donald Trump's government to impose visa restrictions on those who have benefited from or support Cuban collaboration in health.
While praising the efforts of the island's medical personnel and their work in difficult conditions, the statement recognizes that the State Department's measures threaten the health and well-being of people who benefit from the help of Cuban doctors.
"The work of Cuban aid workers has only brought hope and healing for many people from poor communities and that is why their effort deserves support and not penalties," the proclamation states.
The signatories, representing the strong solidarity movement with Cuba, recognize the positive impact of medical assistance on the health of Belizeans, which has prevailed for more than 30 uninterrupted years. Finally, they demand the total lifting of the blockade, the elimination of all punitive measures and call on the international community to defend and support Cuba's medical cooperation. RC/OHH
