Havana, 2 May 2025 - 900 delegates from 39 countries gathered in Havana for the International Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, where they reaffirmed their commitment to the struggle for sovereignty, social justice and solidarity among peoples to confront neo-fascism. The Friends of Cuba Society in South Africa, FOCUS, was there.
Representatives of the trade unions NUM (Mineworkers Union), POPCRU (Police and Civil Prison Workers Union) and COSATU (Confederation of South African Trade Unions) attended the meeting, where they denounced the criminal blockade against the Cuban people, condemned the unjust presence of Cuba on the list of countries sponsoring terrorism and ratified the invariable solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Lefika Chetty, member of the South African Communist Party and FOCUS shared with the rest of the delegates about initiatives to increase international solidarity with Cuba from different parts of the world.
