Dublin, May 29, 2025. Yesterday afternoon, Irish deputies and senators held the first meeting of the new Parliamentary Friendship Group with Cuba, to which Ambassador Bernardo Guanche Hernández was invited. The diplomat gave a presentation on the functioning and structure of People's Power in his country, the composition of the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Cuba with Ireland, chaired by the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Fernando González Llort and on the Cuban reality, victim of the strict and intensified economic, commercial, and financial blockade maintained by the United States against Cuba.
He also thanked the Speaker of the Irish Parliament (Ceann Comhairle), Deputy Verona Morphy, for its creation, which highlights the excellent bilateral ties between the two countries, particularly in the parliamentary field. The new Parliamentary Friendship Group highlighted its solidarity and rejection of the blockade, as well as the unjustified re inclusion of Cuba on the List of States Sponsoring Terrorism. It also discussed potential cooperation between the two countries with the ambassador.
The Group continues Ireland's parliamentary ties with Cuba following the constitution of the new Irish parliament, resulting from the elections at the end of 2024.
