Pretoria, 5 June 2025. Cuba's Chargé d'Affaires in South Africa, Ambassador Esther Armenteros, held a fruitful meeting with Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Peace Mabe. During the exchange, they followed up on the main issues of bilateral relations in the sector.
The Ambassador congratulated her counterpart on the excellent organisation of the main event for Africa Day, which was a great demonstration of the beauty of South African culture and traditions.
In turn, Deputy Minister Mabe stressed the importance of the role played by Cuba in achieving definitive freedom on the continent, which is why support for Cuba today in the just battles it is fighting is essential and "Cuba can count on South Africa", she emphasised.
The state of relations in the cultural and sporting spheres was reviewed, and both advocated for the deepening and expansion of relations, taking into account the potential that exists for cooperation.
The ambassador was accompanied by the mission's cultural attaché, Lauren Luis, while the deputy minister was accompanied by two officials from her department, Bongi Ramalepe and Mthethelile Sonjica.
