Cuba explores new avenues of cooperation in the global grain market.

The Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Vargas Walter, held a fruitful meeting with the Executive Director of the International Grains Council (IGC), Arnaud Petit, at the organisation's headquarters. The Cuban Embassy was also represented by Soima Méndez Lazo, the First Secretary for Economic and Commercial Affairs.

During the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of cooperation within the agri-food sector. They also explored avenues for technical assistance and capacity building that could benefit Cuba and other developing countries.

The continuing impact of the US embargo on Cuba was emphasised, as it seriously affects national industries, including food production, grain processing and agricultural infrastructure.

In line with the sustainable development strategy, the Cuban diplomats shared their country's interest and commitment to strengthening ties with multilateral organisations specialising in this sector.

The meeting demonstrated a mutual commitment to maintaining an open and constructive dialogue, as well as identifying opportunities for enhanced collaboration between Cuba and the International Grains Council to promote the resilience and sustainability of food systems.
