In front of the European Parliament, voices of solidarity call for an end to the blockade against Cuba
On the eve of the 173rd anniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Hero, José Martí, a solidarity action with Cuba took place in front of the European Parliament headquarters, bringing together members of the European Parliament, Cuban compatriots, and friends of solidarity in Belgium.
The activity, organized in the form of a Photo Action, provided a space for accompaniment and support for a widely shared demand: an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against Cuba, as well as respect for the Cuban people's right to self-determination and development. Under the slogans #HandsOffCuba and #TumbaElBloqueo, participants reaffirmed that solidarity between peoples cannot be blocked.
The meeting took on special political and symbolic significance as it was held on the eve of José Martí's birthday, whose thinking and legacy continue to inspire the defense of justice, dignity, and solidarity as essential principles of relations between nations. The day was accompanied by the evocation of his words: “Whoever stands up for Cuba today stands up for all time,” which summed up the spirit of the event.
The Embassy of Cuba in Belgium and to the European Union expresses its sincere gratitude to the MEPs and other members of the European Parliament, to our friends in solidarity and to our Cuban compatriots who participated in this action, for their constant support, their backing for Cuba and their commitment to the principles of international law, peace and cooperation among peoples.
This expression of solidarity reaffirms that opposition to the blockade against Cuba is widespread, sustained, and growing in the international community, and is a clear sign that Cuba has the support and friendship of those who defend respect for international law and justice.
