The 5th International “Patria” Colloquium Concludes in Havana

The 5th edition of the International “Patria” Colloquium concluded this Saturday after three days that turned the Cuban capital into a hub of critical thought from the Global South. The event brought together more than 150 participants from 25 countries, along with representatives of social movements, political organizations, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to the United Nations, in discussions focused on the contemporary challenges of communication.

Among the main milestones of this edition was the inauguration of Patria’s permanent headquarters, conceived as a space for training, creation, and ongoing exchange among communicators, activists, and content creators.

The program featured panels on digital power, technopolitics, algorithmic control, and emancipatory imagination, as well as debates on the impact of sanctions and media blockades in Latin America. It also included practical workshops with more than 3,000 participants, focusing on topics such as artificial intelligence, content automation, political humor, and social media analysis.

Within the framework of the colloquium, the movement “My Signature for Patria” was also launched, promoted by Cuban civil society organizations to reaffirm the country’s commitment to peace in the face of what they describe as hybrid warfare, blockade, and disinformation campaigns.

The closing ceremony was attended by the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, as well as Roberto Morales Ojeda and other leaders of the Party and Government. During the event, participants paid tribute to the centennial of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution and the 65th anniversary of the first major defeat of imperialism in the Americas.
