Reaffirm solidarity with Cuba at the 5th edition of “Femme Fest Cyprus” organized by the Panchipriota Women's Movement (POGO)

Nicosia, Cyprus, April 26, 2026.- The fifth edition of the Cypriot Women's Festival held this Sunday in the Acropolis park of Strovolos, in Nicosia, dedicated a unique space to reiterate support and solidarity with the Cuban people and its Revolution, amid various activities and gatherings that had as their central thematic focus the role of the contemporary Cypriot woman.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of Cuba to Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, who was able to personally thank Eleni Evagorou, Secretary General of the Panchipriota Women's Movement (POGO) and head of the Office for Gender Equality of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL), as well as the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association, a group with which he shared throughout the entire Sunday session.

A space in which --from different proposals-- solidarity and support for the Cuban people and government were reiterated, in the face of the current energy blockade and the economic, commercial, and financial embargo that the U.S. government has maintained against the island for more than sixty years.

“Femme Fest,” specified Eleni Evagorou, “continues to be that necessary space for exchanges for women and their groups, proof that what we achieve is the result of what we are capable of obtaining through collective struggle. Here we can exchange and create together; and our festival has shown that it is indeed possible to fight for women's equality.”

“Equality does not come on its own,” pointed out the Secretary General of the Panchipriota Women's Movement (POGO), “it requires organization, pressure, creativity, and resources, and after all our joint efforts, we thank everyone who has been involved in the success of its organization. We also very especially thank the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba, who accompanies us in this edition.”

Debates, thematic workshops, exhibitions, cultural presentations, and work with children, among other proposals, made up an entire creative universe associated with the challenges and issues that today occupy — and kept as the main focus of the event — the contemporary Cypriot woman.

From this scenario, the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association Stand facilitated the timely meeting of the Cuban diplomat with supporters, allies, and friends of the Cuban Revolution from all times; a space in which Pino Martínez personally thanked countless expressions of affection, support, and admiration for the largest of the Antilles.

Until the final moments of the Festival, people were still arriving with donations for Cuba, provided with great generosity, attachment, and sensitivity to the current situation that the island is going through, which were delivered by Cypriot families to the aforementioned Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association as proof that #CubaNoEstáSola .
