Cuban resident in Ireland denounces energy blockade and sanctions against Cuba.

Dublin, September 23, 2026.  In front of the Irish Parliament,  Magaly Egurrola Hernández—a Cuban resident in Ireland—denounced the intensification of the blockade against Cuba and the energy blockade imposed on the island since last January.

Reflecting on Cuba's history, Magaly noted that her country was subjugated first by the Spanish and later by the Yankee empires. She added that it would never again be a colony of any empire, would never bow down, and would defend the homeland to the very end.

She emphasized that Cuba is not a threat, whereas the blockade is, as it causes economic and human harm. It is a genocidal policy aimed at making the Cuban nation unsustainable, she stated. She explained that the blockade imposed on her country for over sixty years has intensified in 2026, featuring an oil embargo and secondary sanctions against foreign companies that do business with her homeland. A narrative has been constructed—she pointed out—to discredit Cuba before the world, setting conditions for dialogue between the two nations while weighing options for military aggression that would result in a massacre—the destruction and death of a people who prefer dignity to submission to an empire.

Magaly received repeated ovations from the demonstrators accompanying her.
