THE PRESIDENT OF CYPRUS RECEIVES THE CREDENTIAL LETTERS OF THE CUBAN AMBASSADOR.
Cyprus, February 7, 2018. - The President of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades received in the morning of today in the Presidential Palace, in a solemn ceremony, the credentials of the Cuban Ambassador in Cyprus, Omar Leyva Rafull.
During the ceremony, the Ambassador of the Greater Antilles, took the opportunity to congratulate President Anastasiades for his re-election to the position, result of the electoral process that ended on this Mediterranean island last Sunday, February 4. Likewise, he thanked on behalf of his people and government the support of Cyprus to the resolution that every year calls on the UN to the Government of the United States of America to put an end to the unjust economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba.
For his part, the Cypriot President welcomed the Cuban diplomat to his country, while highlighting the excellent state of existing bilateral relations and the interest of his government to continue increasing them, and he extended a warm greeting to the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Raúl Castro Ruz and through him, to the people of Cuba.
During the exchange, bilateral issues between both countries were reviewed, and Leyva Rafull committed himself to work to further strengthen existing ties, while reiterating Cuba's position on the right of Cypriots to have a nation that promotes values of coexistence, integration and work, to achieve a future of peace, without external interference and with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Cyprus and Cuba have maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations since November 22, 1960.
