Dublin, June 21, 2018. The Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando Gonzalez Llort, was invited to a hearing of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Trade and Defense of the Irish parliament.
After the welcome offered by Brendan Smith, Chairman of the Committee, Fernando, in his capacity as Deputy to the National Assembly of the People's Power, offered the Irish parliamentarians information on the progress of the process of updating the Cuban economic and social model, as well as the process of reform of the Constitution, among other topics.
The desire of the National Assembly to maintain fluid relations with the Irish parliament was confirmed and how both legislative bodies can contribute to the strengthening of the friendship relations between Ireland and Cuba and broadest bilateral cooperation, within the framework of the opportunities offered by the agreement that was signed on the occasion of the visit to Cuba of the President Ireland in February 2017.
Fernando also had occasion to thank for the sustained support that Ireland has offered to the approval in the General Assembly of the United Nations of the resolution that demands an end to the commercial and financial economic blockade that the United States government maintains against the Cuban people.
Fernando was accompanied by Hugo Rene Ramos Milanes, Cuba's ambassador to Ireland.
