Solidarity with Cuba in Belfast pays tribute to the Cuban hero Fernando Gonzalez Llort.

Belfast, June 22, 2018. Fernando Gonzalez Llort, Hero of the Republic of Cuba and President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples concluded his activities in Belfast with a meeting with representatives of the organizations of solidarity with Cuba, the meeting was chaired by Jackie Pollock, member of the executive of the "Irish Congress of Trade Unions" and Regional Secretary of UNITE.

The Cuban hero had the opportunity to thank those present and all those who swelled the international solidarity campaign that made it possible for him and his companions Gerardo, Antonio, Ramón and René to be released after prolonged years of unjust imprisonment that sought to end the actions that the Five patriots deployed in Florida to discover terrorist plans against Cuba and to prevent new criminal actions.

Simon McGuinness on behalf of the "Cuba Support Group-Ireland" reminded the thousands of Cuban victims of terrorism and called the mission that was entrusted to the Five a success, because after they were unjustly imprisoned there has been no other terrorist action against Cuba, nor has it had to mourn the death of other people. Simon recalled the special motivations that the Cuban people had to recognize these young people with the high title of Heroes of the Republic of Cuba.

In a lively exchange with those present, Fernando reported on the process of updating Cuban economic and social model, the constitutional reform and other multiple tasks undertaken by the Government and the Cuban people to consolidate the gains of the Socialist Revolution, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba.

The grave consequences on the Cuban economy of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government against the Cuban people for six decades to suffocate the Revolution, as well as the obstacles that this generates for the normal development of the exemplary collaboration that the Island offers to dozens of nations in the world, was a reason for renewed solidarity and commitment to engage in an international campaign of greater strength to end the blockade.
