On August 9, 2018, the Cuban government proceeded in Havana to the hand over to authorities of the US Government a US citizen wanted by that country´s justice system for crimes committed in the US, and for whom there is an Interpol warrant of seizure, with a Red Alert. This individual entered the national territory on July 31, 2018.
This action is based on Cuba's strict compliance with its international legal obligations and existing bilateral agreements with the United States in the area of law enforcement, as well as on the cooperation that both governments are developing on that front.
Interpol red alerts refer to people who are wanted by national jurisdictions. It stipulates the arrest or provisional arrest of the persons wanted for extradition. The legal basis for issuing an order of Red Alert is the arrest warrant or the legal sentence issued by the judicial authorities of the interested country.
