On November 6, 2018, the government of Cuba proceeded to hand over to authorities of the United States government, an American citizen wanted by the justice system of that country for serious crimes committed in the United States and who was also wanted on an Interpol Red Notice. Said citizen entered Cuba’s national territory on October 28th, 2018.
This action is based on Cuba’s full compliance with its international legal obligations, the existing bilateral agreements on law enforcement between Cuba and the United States and the cooperation engaged by both governments in that front.
Interpol Red Notices refer to persons wanted under national jurisdictions. The legal ground to issue an Interpol Red Notice is an arrest warrant or judicial decision issued by the judicial authorities of the country concerned.
