Cuba and Dominica renew Health Cooperation Agreement.

Dominica, Roseau, October 24, 2016. In an official ceremony, the Minister of Health, Dr. Kenneth Darroux, representing the Ministry of Health and Environment of Dominica and the ambassador, Juan Carlos Frómeta by the Ministry of Health of Cuba, renewed the cooperation agreement on health between the two countries.

The Cuban ambassador stressed that the signing of the agreement represented the political will of the Cuban government and people to continue cooperating with Dominica in the effort to provide quality health care to the people of this small island. Also stressed that despite the difficulties created by the US blockade, Cuba will continue to support the training of human resources of Dominica, through the scholarship program in force, which has meant that in recent years dozens of young dominiquenses have been able to study and specialize in Cuba, mainly in the Health area.

For his part, Minister Darroux formed in Cuba as a physician, thanked and significantly recognized the contribution  in the formation of human capital provided by Cuba to Dominica, even in difficult years as the stage of the "special period". He noted that 90% of dominica doctors now working in the areas of primary care, have been trained in Cuba. He added that dozens of young Dominicans studying in Cuba at the moment, and other doctors are studying various subjects to be incorporated into the team of the new hospital in building. Finally, he recognized the positive significance of having for several years a Cuban medical brigade with specialists in various branches of medicine, which has made it possible to offer a quality service to the Dominica people.

At the signing of the new Agreement, included the Chief of the Cuban Medical Brigade, Dr. Jorge Ribeaux and Deputy Minister of Health in charge of cooperation with Cuba, Dr. David Johnson.
